MNRF Data

Parry Sound District MNR MapThe Parry Sound District of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry extends from Georgian Bay to Algonquin Park, west to east and from the Severn River to the French River, south to north. This boundary encompasses most of the Territorial Districts of Muskoka and Parry Sound and small parts of the County of Haliburton and the District of Nipissing.

Surveyed LakesWithin this area, there are approximately 800 waterbodies greater than 20 ha in surface area and many more smaller lakes and ponds. Aquatic habitat inventories or 'lake surveys' have been conducted on about 750 of these waterbodies. These surveys, mostly conducted prior to the mid-1980's, provide the base data for MNRF's fisheries management program.

Ongoing data collection and assessment since the original survey has added for our knowledge base of many lakes, but for the majority the original inventory remains the primary source of information.

The purpose of this section is to provide basic information such as lake statistics, fish species occurrence and fisheries management data. More detailed information collected from ongoing assessment projects can be obtained by contacting the MNRF Parry Sound or Bracebridge area offices (see Resources).
